چکیده

The Randall-Sundrum model is one of several extra-dimensional theories giving rise to a spectrum of massive graviton states. It is the nature of this particular model that the graviton states are well separated in mass, allowing for their detection in collider experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as resonances. This paper considers the possibility of detecting the graviton in the G∗ → γγ decay mode as spin-2 resonances reconstructed from the decay products using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Specifically, this analysis examines in some depth the ability to detect and accurately reconstruct a range of photons. Furthermore, the minimal required luminosity to achieve a statistical significance of 5 or greater is also calculated.

Model Independent Extra - dimension signatures with ATLAS ∗

The generic missing transverse energy signals at LHC for theories having large extra dimensions are discussed. Final states of jets plus missing energy and photons plus missing energy are simulated in the ATLAS detector. The discovery limit of LHC and the methods to determine the parameters of the underlying model are discussed.

Supersymmetry or Universal Extra Dimensions? Utilizing the ATLAS Experiment at CERN

Supersymmetry and Universal Extra Dimensions are just two of an array of popular and enticing extensions to the Standard Model. The work presented in this thesis evaluates the feasibility of differentiating between these two models by measuring the spins of the new particles, utilising the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The method presented depends upon the use of an ang...

Exploring Higher Dimensional Black Holes at the Large Hadron Collider

In some extra dimension theories with a TeV fundamental Planck scale, black holes could be produced in future collider experiments. Although cross sections can be large, measuring the model parameters is difficult due to the many theoretical uncertainties. Here we discuss those uncertainties and then we study the experimental characteristics of black hole production and decay at a typical detec...

Diphoton Signals for Large Extra Dimensions at the Tevatron and CERN LHC

We analyze the potentiality of hadron colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of photon pairs. The virtual exchange of Kaluza–Klein gravitons can significantly enhance this processes provided the quantum gravity scale (MS) is in the TeV range. We studied in detail the subprocesses qq̄ → γγ and gg → γγ taking into account the complete Standard Model and graviton contribu...

Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in the four-lepton channel in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

The final ATLAS Run 1 measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in the decay channel H → ZZ → lþl−l0þl0−, where l, l0 1⁄4 e or μ, are presented. These measurements were performed using pp collision data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.5 and 20.3 fb−1 at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The H → ZZ → 4l sig...
